Ok, another geek post. Quick updated, here. I’m taking out a second mortgage on the house to consolidate all of my non-secured debt. Part of that money is going towards a new computer. Here is the current list of items I’m looking at.

ANTEC Life Style Series Black Case With 380W Power Supply, Model “SONATA” – I’ve decided to go with function over form here. My boss highly reccomends this case, as do many of the shoppers at Newegg. My box isn’t anywhere that people can see it, so having all the lights (while cool) isn’t really something I’m concerned with. This case is virtually silent, and I like that.
ASUS “A8V Deluxe” VIA K8T800 Pro Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU -RETAIL
AMD Athlon 64 3400+, 512KB L2 Cache 939-Pin 64-bit Processor – OEM
ZALMAN CNPS7000B-Cu Copper CPU Cooler for Socket 478/462/754/939/940 CPUs -RETAIL – Ultra quiet CPU cooler to go along with the ultra quiet case.
POWERCOLOR ATI RADEON 9800 Video Card, 256MB DDR, 128-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model “R98E-PD3-Bulk” -OEM
Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, 184 Pin 1GB DDR PC-3200 PRO – Retail
Sony Black 52x32x52x16 Combo Drive, Model CRX320E Black, OEM
Sony Internal 16X DVD+/-RW / Double Layer Drive Black, Model DW-D22A-B2, OEM
SONY Black 1.44MB 3.5inch Floppy Disk Drive, Model MPF920, OEM
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value Sound Card, Model “SB0400” -OEM
ALTEC LANSING MX5021 2.1 Multimedia Speakers -RETAIL – This would be total gravy, as I don’t really need new speakers. Mine are really beat up, though, and I’ve been very impressed with the speakers that K. has.
Maxtor 80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, MODEL 6Y080M0, OEM Drive Only

I’m going to pull the hard drives out of my current machine, so I don’t need to buy any of those. Will pull the 60 Gig out of the server and put it into my current one and then make THAT the new server (meaning that I’ll have a fairly decent 333mhz that will be one HD short of fully operational).

Total Cost? $1258.93 before taxes.

Thoughts?

Edit oops! netgoth pointed out I had the wrong socket configuration for the cooling fan. Corrected now. New price is $1270.43

Edit The Third Changed my mind on the MOBO. Going with ASUS. New total is $1359.88

Edit-o-rama Whoops. Wrong fan again. New price is $1365.88
